Dean, Faculty of Science & Professor of Biological Sciences, University of Alberta
Dr. Declan Ali is a prominent figure in the academic community, currently serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Alberta. He began his term on July 1, 2023, bringing over two decades of experience to this role. Dr. Ali joined the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alberta in 2000 and has held various leadership positions, including Associate Dean Research and Acting Associate Vice-President Research.
Dr. Ali's research focuses on developmental neurobiology, particularly the effects of cannabinoids and alcohol on neurodevelopment. He has published over 70 peer-reviewed articles and has been continuously funded by NSERC. His dedication to mentorship is evident as he has supervised or co-supervised more than 70 trainees at different academic levels
Dr. Ali became a member of the PIMS Board of Directors in 2024.
