Vladimir Chernousov

Vladimir Chernousov is a Professor of Pure Mathematics, University of Alberta (Edmonton, Canada). Received his Ph.D. from Institute of Mathematics (Minsk, Belarus) in 1983 and Doctorate (second Ph.D., equivalent to Habilitation) in 1991. Dr. Chernousov held a position Leading Research Fellow in the Institute of Mathematics (Minsk, Belarus) in the 90th. He joined Mathematical and Statistical Sciences Department of UofA in 2003. His research is in algebra; in particular in algebraic groups, Lie Theory, Galois cohomology and related areas. Received an award of the Academy of Sciences of USSR for the proof of Serre's Conjecture II for E_8 over number fields. Had some invited visiting positions in France, Germany, Switzerland. Held position the Canada Research Chair in Algebra, T1 in 2004-2018.

He has been a member of the PIMS Board of Directors since 2019.
