UBC Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems Seminar: Chengyu Wu

This talk will focus on the embedding problem: given two subshifts, under what conditions can one be embeded into the other? We will start with the classical Krieger embedding theorem which give criteria for embedding a subshift into a mixing SFT. We then present our recent results on generalizing Krieger’s result, including a characterization of factorizable embeddings and new theorems on embeddings into a special class of sofic shifts (joint work with Brian Marcus, Tom Meyerovitch, and Klaus Thomsen.).
